Fishing for a Close One

Miami Marlins +1.5 at -112

I make Philadelphia the more likely winner, but the recent team numbers point toward a much closer game than the moneyline may suggest.

Over their last ten games, the Phillies have averaged 4.2 runs scored and 4.2 runs allowed. Miami has scored only 3.3 runs per game over that span, but Philadelphia’s inconsistent offense makes it difficult to project the Phillies creating much separation.

The matchup produces a rough scoring expectation of:

Phillies: 4–5 runs Marlins: 3–4 runs

That puts outcomes like 4-3 and 5-4 squarely in play. Miami does not need to win outright. The Marlins can either pull the upset or lose by one run and still cash the bet.

At -112, the break-even probability is approximately 52.8%. Given how frequently this matchup projects to land within one run, I think the Marlins +1.5 covers often enough to justify the price.
